Bathe Your Way to a More Beautiful You

We haven’t discovered the fountain of youth yet, but something like it might exist in your shower.

If you don’t have a shower filter, you might want one after reading this.

We all want to look and feel our very best; it’s no secret. We go to great lengths to achieve beauty and health, but there are things that we can do to achieve our goals that are easy to overlook. According to The Economist, the global health and beauty industry makes over $160 million per year. But what are we spending all of this money on? We are spending it on moisturizers that promise to reduce, or even rid our skin of wrinkles, and prevent our skin from drying out. We buy fancy shampoos that promise to make our hair grow and all kinds of products that will make us look and feel better. However, the real beauty secret we’ve all been waiting for might be right down the hall in our bathroom shower.

Waking up in the morning, or coming home at night, and taking a nice, hot shower can be quite the lovely feeling. It’s refreshing and we feel renewed when we step out of the tub with newly cleaned, open, and free feeling pores, extending from our heads to our toes. However, unless we have a shower filter, we might be doing more harm than good during our fresh-and-clean-routine.

There is a long list of chemicals that are used to make the water in our homes clean, sanitary, and safe for drinking and bathing in, but many of these chemicals are not ones that we would knowingly expose our skin to. Don’t worry…they exist in safe concentrations, but our skin and hair are especially sensitive to these chemicals and they become damaged overtime because of them.

When we shower, our pores open and they become more absorbent. In a hot shower, open pores absorb anything and everything that exists in our water, including chlorine and other compounds that dry your skin out and even prevent proper hair growth. Dry skin causes cracks and wrinkles, especially in our most sensitive areas, such as our faces. Hair can become dry from root to end, which can cause hair to break and can even cause hair to stop growing. Yikes.

The good news is that we don’t have to keep spending tons of money on moisturizers and magical shampoos. In fact, all we have to do is make sure that we have a shower filter that gets rid of chemicals, such as chlorine, that cause damage to our skin and hair. There are many different filters on the market, ranging in cost, but most are pretty inexpensive and easy to install.
